The latest job market performance figures released by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) on Tuesday indicated a drop in unemployment rate from 2.3% in June to 1.7% in September - the lowest in 10 years.
This rate is 1% point less than the 2.7% jobless rate a year ago.
The report indicated a record number of 57,600 jobs created in the third quarter due to rapid economic growth. A total of 171,500 jobs were created in the first nine months of the year, close to the 176,000 figure for the whole of 2006.
The services sector continues to lead employment gains with 34,500 workers in the third quarter, followed by the manufacturing sector with 11,800 and the construction sector with 10,800.
