The new Containerised Traffic System (CTS), costing S$3 million, was launched yesterday to streamline the tracking and communication processes for hauliers operating in Singapore’s container ports. It is expected to cut costs by up to 30% due to faster processing and turnaround times.
The CTS is supported by SPRING Singapore through its Local Enterprise and Association Development (LEAD) programme and spearheaded by the Container Depot Association(Singapore) (CDAS), the Singapore Logistics Association (SLA) and the Singapore Transport Association (STA).
The new CTS uses a mobile data terminal allowing 2-way communication between drivers and traffic controllers, ensuring better routing and vehicle management. Installation costs range between S$1,500 - S$2,000 and monthly subscription will cost between S$20 - S$30. The new system will also be integrated with port operator PSA’s proprietary network portal, Portnet.
About 25 out of the 300 haulier companies here are using CTS now. 900 out of the 3,000 prime movers have also installed equipment that enables them to receive and accept incoming jobs in real time.
