According to figures released by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Singapore's tourism sector had a record year in 2007 with S$13.8 billion in tourism receipts and 10.3 million visitors. STB said receipts in 2007 were the highest ever in a single year.
Tourism receipts increased 11.3% from 2006 and surpassed the target of S$13.6 billion, while the number of visitors exceeded the 10.2 million target set for 2007.
Arrivals from 2 key sources of tourists, Australia and India, registered strong growth. In total, Singapore welcomed 749,000 visitors from India in 2007 and an all-time high of 79,000 Australian visitors in December.
Hotels also performed well, earning S$153 million in room revenue, which was a 20% increase from December 2006. This brought total room revenue to a high of S$1.8 billion. STB estimated that the average room rate was S$202 with average occupancy rate at 87% in 2007.
