Retail Professional Traineeship Programme (RPTP)

Is your business in the retail industry? Get a grant to hire and train professionals, managers and executives without retail experience.
For who?
- Singapore-based businesses in the retail sector who wish to hire and train professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) without retail experience.
- PMEs under this programme must:
- be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents
- have a diploma or above
- be unemployed or facing possible enemployment/retrenchment
- be physically fit
- not be working in the retail sector
For what?
- To encourage retail businesses to hire PMEs without industry experience by subsidising the costs of training inexperienced PMEs.
- From the jobseeker’s perspective, this grant helps displaced PMEs to pursue retail careers and pick up the skills required to join the retail industry.
How does it work?
- You sign up for the programme as a “participating business”. When you hire PMEs without retail experience, they will go through 7 months of classroom training and traineeship.
- The classroom training is conducted by the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies (SIRS). Trainees graduate with a WSQ Diploma in Retail Studies.
- The traineeship is structured practical training designed and developed by your business to complement the classroom training and help the PME adapt to his/her new working environment. Your practical training programme must be approved by WDA.
- You can recruit PMEs on your own. WDA also organises recruitment drives and will send potential hires to you.
