Compulsory Registration Of Healthcare Professionals

Certain healthcare professionals must be registered with their relevant statutory boards and hold valid certificates to practice in Singapore. You must ensure the healthcare professionals you hire comply with the relevant laws and all rules and guidelines in force at the time.

Medicine Singapore and foreign-trained medical practitioners including doctors, physicians, general practitioners, medical specialists, visiting experts and medical graduates Singapore Medical Council (SMC)
Nursing Nurses and midwives Singapore Nursing Board (SNB)
Optometry Optometrists and opticians, including contact lens practitioners (CLP) Optometrists & Opticians Board (OOB)
Pharmacy Singapore and foreign-trained pharmacists Singapore Pharmacy Council (SPC)

How Can Healthcare Professionals Practice In Singapore?

  • Upon registration, a valid Practising Certificate (PC) must be obtained from the relevant statutory board in order to practise in Singapore.

  • PCs are generally issued for 1 or 2 years.

  • Practitioners may need to meet Continuing Professional Education (CPE) or training requirements to renew their PCs.

  • It is an offence to practice without proper registration or without a valid PC.
