- To establish Singapore as a Food Hub with a reputation for food innovation.
- To help local businesses capture new markets through food innovations.
- To use R&D to create food innovations with commercial potential.
For who?
- All businesses - especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs) - in the food industry.
For what?
- FIRC helps SMEs to create or improve food products, processes and packaging.
E.g. “Ready-to-eat” frozen Hainanese Chicken Rice.
- SMEs can approach FIRC for conceptualisation, development, sensory evaluation and market testing of new products, processes or packaging. FIRC services include:
- Consultancy Services
E.g. Product & process development, packaging & shelf life evaluation and sensory & consumer studies.
- Training
E.g. Courses, workshops and seminars on food innovations.
- Equipment Leasing
E.g. Equipment for food packaging, food processing and food analysis.
- Facilities
E.g. Test kitchens, sensory booths, pilot plants and laboratories.
Background
- FIRC is the first Centre of Innovation (COI) to be launched under SPRING’s S$150 million Technology Innovation Programme (TIP).
- FIRC works with a network of local and overseas food related organisations to provide technical expertise to local enterprises.
- FIRC aims to complete 275 projects in the first 5 years and generate a total value add of S$115 million.
