When do I need this licence?

  • You need this licence to provide entertainment – free or paid – at any place that the public can access. You do not need this licence to provide entertainment to a closed group of friends, colleagues, members, etc.

  • Live music performances, cabaret shows, dancing, playing recorded music, amusement park games, computer games, seminars and workshops are some examples of public entertainment.

  • Certain activities are exempted, e.g. magic shows at shopping centres. For details, please refer to the Application Procedures and FAQs on Public Entertainment Licence.

  • You should apply for an Arts Entertainment Licence instead if you are providing ah-hoc arts-related public entertainment, e.g. cultural performances, plays and art exhibitions.

      cafés, discotheques,
      KTV lounges, lounges,
      pubs, restaurants and
      snack bars.

    • Amusement centres

    • Billiard saloons

    • Computer games centres

    • Shop with game
      machines

    Examples of public entertainment requiring this licence:

    • Acrobatic or
      gymnastic show

    • Beauty pageant

    • Fashion show

    • Computer games

    • Game machines

    • Public Talks

    • Game machines
