Government agencies licence, regulate and provide funding and assistance for businesses. Here is a list of Government bodies that may be relevant to your arts, entertainment or recreation business.

Media Development Authority (MDA)

  • MDA regulates and helps to grow the media industry in Singapore. MDA also manages initiatives and capability development for sub-sectors such as film, video, television, radio, publishing, music, games, and animation.

  • MDA licences and sets guidelines for media activities, including arts entertainment events, film screenings and broadcast of television programmes in entertainment establishments.

Ministry Of Information, Communications And The Arts (MICA)

  • MICA develops and promotes Singapore’s infocomm technology and creative industries such as arts, design and media.

  • MICA provides funding support and oversees the development of arts and heritage projects in Singapore through its statutory boards – the Media Development Agency (MDA), National Arts Council (NAC) and National Heritage Board (NHB).

National Arts Council (NAC)

  • NAC spearheads the development of arts in Singapore through community outreach programmes to promote local art, collaborations with training institutes to nurture arts talent, and grants, subsidies and work commissions to arts businesses, groups and individual artists.

  • NAC partners other Government agencies, private-sector businesses and arts associations to organise arts festivals, networking events, exhibitions and competitions in Singapore and abroad that showcase local art and arts businesses to an international audience.

National Heritage Board (NHB)

  • NHB champions the development and promotion of a vibrant cultural and heritage sector in Singapore. Through educational and community outreach programmes at its national museums and centres, NHB makes heritage relevant and accessible to diverse audiences. NHB also manages the National Archives of Singapore and the Heritage Conservation Centre.

  • NHB develops and provides co-funding for new or upgrading heritage projects spearheaded by businesses such as private museums, heritage galleries, curators, conservators and art logistic firms under the Heritage Industry Incentive Programme (HI²P).

National Parks Board (NParks)

  • NParks spearheads Singapore’s nature conservation efforts and manages some 300 national parks, roadside greenery, nature reserves and the park connector network.

  • NParks licences the use of its parkland for recreational and commercial activities such as events and recreational/sports programmes. NParks also works with industry partners to promote, develop and provide skills upgrading courses for Singapore’s landscaping and horticulture industries.

Singapore Sports Council (SCC)

  • SSC promotes sports development in Singapore by supporting the training and development of local sportsmen, funding individual sports through the National Sports Associations (NSAs), and keeping sports facilities accessible and affordable to the general public.

  • SSC partners sports businesses, event organisers and other Government agencies to host international sporting events, build world-class sports schools, institutes and facilities, and seed and grow a self-sustaining sports industry in Singapore.

Singapore Tourism Board (STB)

  • STB develops and champions the tourism sector, including developing and marketing Uniquely Singapore dining, nightlife and other entertainment experiences.

  • STB supports nightspot operators, art events producers and event organisers in the development of new entertainment concepts and events to establish Singapore as the “Events & Entertainment Capital of Asia”.
