Concessionary Tax Rate For Approved Mega Events

Want to stage a mega event in Singapore? Now you can apply for a reduced tax rate for approved events.

Effective Date 1 April 2005 to 31 March 2010


For who?

  • Event companies that wish to stage mega events in Singapore.

  • These mega events must obtain significant tourist receipts and media exposure for Singapore by:

    • attracting at least 5,000 participants, including 1,500 tourists and international visitors
    • generating at least S$1.5 million in tourist spending
    • achieving at least S$1 million worth of global media exposure (e.g. newspapers, magazines, radio, television, etc.)

For what?

  • To encourage event companies to organise or hold world-class events in Singapore with the aim of enhancing Singapore’s attractiveness as a tourism hub.

How much?

  • Reduced tax rate of 10% on income from your event. The current corporate tax rate is 18%.


Things to note

  • The 10% concessionary tax rate will only apply to projects approved between 1 April 2005 to 31 March 2010.

  • The tax rate is applicable only to income received from the mega event, not to other income earned by the organisers.

  • You should discuss your proposed project with STB before applying.
