Water Efficiency Fund (WEF)

A fund targeted at getting companies to look into efficient ways of managing their water demand through recycling, use of alternate sources of water supply as well as initiative to promote water conservation.

For who?

  • Singapore-based companies of the same nature that use less than 1,000m3 of water* can apply together as a group of companies (with combined consumption of more than 1000m3) to implement Water Efficiency Projects that will result in a 10% reduction in their total water consumption.

  • Singapore-based companies of the same nature that use 1-1,000m3 of water* can apply together as a group of companies to implement Water Efficiency Projects that will result in a 10% reduction in their total water consumption.

  • Singapore-based organisations (e.g. societies) can apply to implement community-wide campaigns which promote water conservation.

* Water refers to Potable Water, NEWater and Industrial Water.

For what?

  • To encourage companies, associations and organisations to save, conserve and recycle water by funding Water Efficiency Projects. 

How much?

Type Of Project  Funding Amount
Feasibility Study Up to 50% of the cost of the study, subject to a maximum of S$50,000.

Should the results of the feasibility study show that water conservation measures cannot be implemented, the funding will be 10% of the cost of the study, subject to a maximum of S$10,000.

Water Audit Up to 50% of the cost of the audit, subject to a maximum of S$5,000.

Should the results of the audit show that water conservation measures cannot be implemented, the funding will be 10% of the cost of the audit, subject to a maximum of S$1,000.

Recycling Efforts There are 2 possible funding models. When you apply, the amount of funding will be worked out under both models. You will get the lower funding amount.

Model 1
WEF funds for 7 years or over the economic life of the facilities (whichever is lower):

• S$0.40 for every m3 of Portable Water saved
• S$0.10 for every m3 of NEWater saved
• S$0.10 for every m3 of Industrial Water saved

Model 2
WEF funds up to 50% of the capital cost of the facilities, subject to a maximum of S$1 million per project.

Use Of Alternative Source Of Water
Use Of New Technology
Campaigns And Programmes Up to 50% of the cost, subject to a maximum of S$5,000, for organisations to implement community-wide water conservation campaigns and programmes.

Things to note

  • Companies that belong to industries where recycling is already the norm (e.g. Wafer Fabrication) can only use WEF to fund projects which lead to at least a 10% higher recycling rate than the industry norm.

  • Certain types of projects are not eligible for funding. For details, please see Projects Not Eligible for Funding.
