Local Enterprise And Association Development (LEAD) For The Logistics Industry
Singapore Logistics Association (SLA), with support from LEAD, is rolling out new resources and training programmes to strengthen the logistics industry.

Higher funding support for industry associations to develop the industry during the economic downturn. Find out more about the changes.

Aims

  • LEAD funds and assists industry associations who are taking the lead to embark on projects which will result in significant benefits for the whole industry.

For who?

  • LEAD supports projects by industry associations to raise the capabilities of logistics businesses in Singapore.

  • Logistics businesses and companies can participate in and benefit from LEAD-supported projects by SLA.

For what?

The funds and assistance received by SLA from LEAD will be used to:

  1. Conduct a branding exercise
    The branding exercise will help to:

    • improve the image of the logistics industry and make it easier to attract and retain talent

  2. Conduct research and benchmarking studies
    The studies will help to:

    • identify key attributes of successful logistics businesses
    • gather and publish information on trends and opportunities in the industry
    • help in capability upgrading

  3. Set up an education and training institute
    The SLA Training Institute will be set up to offer:

    • skills upgrading courses to nurture new talent for the industry
    • scholarships and attachment opportunities for logistics professionals to help accelerate the development of companies

  4. Develop resources and competencies
    These knowledge-based resources will benefit the entire industry. Examples of resources include:

    • an IT system to improve supply chain collaborations among logistics businesses

    • best practices guides to encourage the adoption of best practices and raise the overall standard of the logistics industry

    • supply chain security guidelines and a training course to prepare logistics businesses for upcoming regulations

  5. Organise business missions, seminars and networking events
    The networking sessions and business missions will:
    • highlight local and overseas business opportunities for logistics businesses

Things to note

  • LEAD supports and funds industry associations, not businesses.

  • Logistics businesses can benefit from LEAD by participating in LEAD-supported programmes and services by SLA.

Changes from 1 February 2009 - 31 January 2010

  • LEAD is part of BUILD (Business Upgrading Initiatives for Long-Term Development) which helps businesses to strengthen their capabilities during the downturn for future growth.

  • BUILD also provides higher funding support to industry associations for LEAD projects. This applies to new projects carried out from 1 February 2009 to 31 January 2010.
